Tyler Fitzgerald
Tyler Fitzgerald is a Canadian vocalist, pianist, choral conductor, and entertainer whose career bridges opera, musical theatre, community music-making, and performing for live audiences. As an operatic baritone, he has appeared in leading roles in productions with Pacific Opera, Edmonton Opera, Calgary Opera, and Opera Kelowna, singing roles ranging from Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro to Mordred in Camelot and The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance. In concert, he has sung with orchestras including the Calgary Philharmonic, Regina Symphony, Edmonton Symphony, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, and the Lethbridge Symphony in repertoire from Carmina Burana and Handel’s Messiah to Bernstein’s Candide. Musical theatre highlights include leading roles in Jesus Christ Superstar, The Sound of Music, Les Misérables, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, The Phantom of the Opera, and Little Shop of Horrors.
As a choral conductor, Tyler is passionate about creating musical experiences that bring people together. He is the founder and artistic director of Calgary’s Out of the Blue Chorus, a non-auditioned community choir with more than eighty members per season, singing a variety of rock, pop, folk, and gospel. His rehearsals and performances are known for their energy, inclusivity, and focus on building a vibrant singing community in the city.
Now exploring the exciting world of duelling pianos performing, Tyler blends his love of playing the piano and singing with the buzz of a live, interactive crowd. He thrives on the give-and-takebetween performer and audience — taking requests, leading sing-alongs, and creating spontaneous musical moments. Whether in a choir rehearsal, a piano bar, or on the theatre stage, he approaches every performance, event, or concert as a shared experience, aiming to keep the audience engaged and energized, making the music feel personal and full of connection.
Originally from Nanaimo, BC, Tyler is a graduate of the Calgary Opera Emerging Artist Program, holding a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Diploma in Piano Performance from Malaspina University College.
